Taking the Kids to See Spider-Man 3?

Saturday May 5, 2007

Normally, a PG-13 movie would never be considered a "kids" movie. Recently, though, there have been a deluge of movies based on kids' favorite characters and marketed to kids that have earned the PG-13 rating. This year alone Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released in theaters, and kids will be wanting to see them.

In fact, I went to a 9:00 p.m. showing of Spider-Man 3 in which at least 50% of the audience was under 14, and about half of those kids were easily under 10. Before the movie began, one child asked his mom if the movie was going to be "scawy" (scary), and I heard small children cry out a few times during the most intense scenes.

In years past, I have not reviewed PG-13 movies, but this year I will review the above listed movies so that parents will have the information they need in order to make the right decision for their family.
