What is life like in the coldest place on earth? Queen Latifah narrates as cameras take viewers to the wondrous white world of the Arctic. Arctic Tale follows the adventures of Nanu, a polar bear cub, and Seela, a Walrus cub, as they struggle to survive in a changing world.
This highly educational documentary contains amazing footage of Nanu and Seela, along with many other fascinating animals from the ice kingdom. In documenting the lives of two cubs on different levels of the food chain, the film captures moments both tender and terrifying. Small children may be concerned about the polar bears eating other animals and about the aggressive tendencies of male polar bears toward females and cubs.
In addition, kids will likely be concerned about the film's message that for Arctic animals, survival is becoming more difficult due to climate change. After the movie ends, children will see a montage of other children offering green suggestions for helping the situation such as, "If your mom and dad buy a hybrid car, it'll be easier for polar bears to get around." Whether or not you agree with such statements, Arctic Tale offers families an educational journey through the Arctic, and perhaps a chance to teach kids about their impact on the environment as well as how to critically analyze the messages they are being fed through all types of media.
