Oz The Great and Powerful

Yesterday Disney released the movie poster for the March 8, 2013 theatrical release Oz The Great and Powerful. The movie is a sort of origins story about the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great and powerful Wizard--and just maybe into a better man as well.

Now, of course that release date seems far away. But if you're like me and want to read the Oz series with the kids before the movie comes out, we'd better get started. There are 14 books in the series written by L. Frank Baum, which means about two books per month if we start in August.

I can’t wait to see this! We are obsessed with everything Oz. My daughter has never read the books, so this will be a perfect time to start.
