The newest Disneynature release, Chimpanzee, is available now in stores and online. I've been excited for this Blu-ray to come out. I was so fascinated by the thought of following chimps around in the rainforest, and I couldn't wait to watch the making-of features on the Blu-ray.
The family-friendly documentary captures the remarkable true life story that unfolded before the eyes and cameras of a group of filmmakers following a young chimp named Oscar. Against the beautiful backdrop of the remote Taļ Forest, we see little Oscar learn and grow. We see him face tragedy, and we witness a remarkable show of compassion. Narrated by Tim Allen, the film is funny and entertaining as well as educational.
The Blu-ray bonus features do include several glimpses into the conditions the filmmakers endured while making the film. I can tell you this: I feel like such a wimp now for every time I jumped or ran away at the sound of one bee. One of the best parts of the bonus features is the text that appears on screen showing how many seconds of film were captured during the same course of time in which the filmmakers endured 173 bee stings. But the bees weren't the most dangerous animals in the forest. To find out which animal filmmakers feared the most, read our interview with director Mark Linfield.
