I read the news this morning before writing this post, so my mind is on New York and my heart is with the people in that area who are struggling right now. It's very bitter sweet that the eloquent short film which will release in theaters today along with Disney's Wreck-It Ralph is a light-hearted love story set in New York City. The funny yet completely endearing story reminds us of how important our connection to other human beings is, and the setting reminds us of how iconic New York is. The film really is beautiful, and you can read more about Paperman here.
So, sitting here reading the news stories and writing about New York, I feel pretty helpless. I wish I could do something more than a donation to the Red Cross. I searched for information on helping the victims of Sandy and found several links on the New York official website. I also saw a news article stating that a relief fund specifically for the people of Staten Island will be announced today. For those of us who don't live anywhere near the East Coast, I guess there's really just not much more we can do than send money to support relief efforts. I just hope that money can be used solely for that purpose, and immediately.
