Christmas Is Going to the Dogs!

Somehow, dogs and Christmas seem to go together. Maybe it's because the unconditional love our pets give us reminds us of how the season should feel. Also, puppies do look so cute in a Santa hat. I've often wished I could give my youngest daughter a puppy in a Santa hat for Christmas. She loves dogs so much, and the look on her face would be priceless. But, since we have some in our family with severe dog allergies, I have to make due with seeing her pure joy as we pop in the latest Disney doggy Christmas movie, Santa Paws 2. Both of my youngest girls love the Buddies movies, and by extension the Santa Paws movies. And my oldest, well, she and her daddy love to roll their eyes about them, but they're yet to miss one.

Santa Paws was originally introduced in the movie Santa Buddies (2009), in which the Air Bud pups meet Puppy Paws, the son of Santa Paws (Santa's faithful dog). The next year, the movie The Search for Santa Paws filled in the back story of Santa's best friend. Now comes Santa Paws 2, which follows Santa Paws' pups -- Hope, Jingle, Charity and Noble -- as they try to prove themselves worthy of a Christmas crystal only to realize that all wishes were not meant to come true. The movie tells the story of a wish granting gone awry and a little girl who is filled with Christmas spirit even though she has recently lost her mother. Kids who love doggy movies will likely enjoy the movie, but some children may be disturbed by the idea that the little girl and her brother lost their mom.

And here are several more doggy Christmas movies new to DVD and/or Blu-ray this year:
