Baby Einstein: My First Signs - Overview
In My First Signs, Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin demonstrates the sign language for many words that babies usually learn first. With the familiar classical music softly playing in the background, babies see the sign for each word, hear the word, and watch as people and puppets use the word or word concept in every day situations.
Like most Baby Einstein DVDs, My First Signs features classical music and art, as well as images that babies particularly love such as other babies, toys and puppets.
Baby Einstein: My First Signs - Guide Review
Baby Einstein DVDs are known for bringing classical music and famous art works to viewing babies, but My First Signs also offers babies an opportunity to solidify their growing knowledge of real world objects and communication.
Sign language has been proven to be an effective form of communication for babies who cannot yet communicate verbally. While watching My First Signs alone will probably not teach babies sign language, the DVD will definitely help them learn in an environment where the signs are consistently practiced.
Even if babies do not sign with their parents, hearing the words and phrases as they are signed and acted out helps babies to recognize and understand key concepts such as mommy, daddy, I love you, eat, sleep and many more.
Baby Einstein: My First Signs - Expand Upon the Curriculum
- Parents can learn the signs from watching the My First Signs DVD, and then practice them with their baby. To help baby learn signs, use the sign throughout the day whenever the word is spoken and repeat the word and sign as often as possible. It may be easier to start out with just one or two words.
