Baby Einstein: Baby's First Sounds - Overview

From the well-known line of Baby Einstein developmental DVDs comes Baby's First Sounds: Discoveries for Little Ears. Baby's First Sounds entertains babies ages 6 months plus with puppetry, animation, and live-action footage. The DVD also seeks to introduce babies to music and art, as well as expose babies to five basic sounds: "ah," "buh," "duh," "ee," and "mm," which are important first sounds in several different languages.

In addition to the sounds, babies also hear words, songs and rhymes in English, Spanish, French and Chinese as they watch the colorful images, silly puppets, and live-action sequences. Music is also a key element of the Baby's First Sounds DVD, which is set to classical music performed in the style of a music box.

Baby Einstein: Baby's First Sounds - Guide Review

Baby's First Sounds looks much the same as several other Baby Einstein DVDs. If you and your baby have generally enjoyed other DVDs by Baby Einstein, you will probably enjoy this one as well.

The colorful animation, puppets, and images of babies and families will surely capture baby's attention. The music, which is characteristic of most Baby Einstein DVDs, is also very age appropriate and enjoyable for babies and young children.

The DVD did not emphasize the five basic sounds as much as I had expected, but the sounds are featured along with some words that incorporate the sounds. The DVD also uses nursery rhymes to give babies more exposure to language and sounds. The rhymes are fun, traditional, and interesting to children. I wish the DVD would have included more nursery rhymes and an even greater emphasis on the five sounds.

Bottom Line: Baby's First Words does not contain anything terribly new or exciting, but like other Baby Einstein DVDs, this one is high quality and is pleasing for babies to watch.
