Barney Animal ABCs - Overview
In this live action program, Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, Riff and their friends learn about animals one letter of the alphabet at a time. The gang starts out with alphabet blocks, then each character takes a few letters and sets out to find an animal that begins with each letter. As they go through the alphabet, the friends talk, laugh and sing about the different animals they discover. At the end, Barney and friends review each letter and animal again.
Barney Animal ABCs - Guide Review
Kids will absolutely love the animals in this video. The footage of the animals is up close and personal, and Barney and the gang incorporate music and songs throughout the entire program. The wide variety of animals also makes the DVD fun, as there are pets, jungle animals, some exotic animals and more.
My problem with these full length Barney DVDs is the time commitment. 56 minutes is a long program for the preschool age group. This length of time is great every once in a while, but it is a bit much when mom just needs a quick minute to make dinner or to help the kids learn the letters of the alphabet. Also, the DVD would have been more effective if were a little more concise and had shown the letters of the alphabet more. The program is fun, full of animals, and helps with letter recognition, but the emphasis is on animals just as much or more than it is on the letters.
