High School Musical
may seem like more of a franchise for older kids, but the movies are insanely popular among kids 6-8 as well. This new DVD game lets kids join in on the fun as they sing, act, and dance along with their favorite HSM characters. NR.

tells the story of a trash compacting robot left on earth after all of the humans had left the garbage-filled planet. WALL-E may be a robot, but he is full of heart. The film tells a story that is supremely unique, clever, and uplifting. Younger children may not get the story yet, but 6-8 year-olds will be able to understand and discuss the various messages in the movie. Rated G.
If you're looking for gift ideas to go along with the DVD, stores are replete with merchandise to go along with the November 18, 2008 DVD release. A couple that stand out are the U Command Wall-E Robot with remote control (Compare Prices) and the i-Dance WALL-E, which grooves as it plays your mp3s (Compare Prices).

The books in the series are recommended for the 9-12 year-old range, but it is a fun series for parents to read to kids ages 6-8 as well. The books do contain some scary parts, so parents may want to read first. Bundle the book series (Compare Prices) with the DVD for a great gift idea.

After losing her mother at sea, Nim and her father Jack found a remote island and settled there to live together. Alone, away from all civilization, daddy and daughter live off the land and study nature, but when her father gets lost at sea, Nim relies on her friendship with author Alex Rover to help her get through. Rated PG.
The movie is based on the wonderful novel (Compare prices) by Australian author Wendy Orr. The book is recommended for kids 8-12, and according to the book cover, Wendy wrote the first draft of Nim's Island when she was only nine!

In Fly Me to the Moon
, three friendly flies -- Nat (Trevor Gagnon), IQ (Philip Daniel Bolden) and Scooter (David Gore) -- decide to stow away on Apollo 11 and become the first flies to visit the moon. The family movie boasts "first ever animated movie created for 3D," so buckle up and get ready to blast off. Kids can be entertained and educated at the same time as they tag along with the flies on the historic mission. Rated G. (On DVD December 2, 2008)

Enthusiastic, big and a little clumsy, Po is the biggest fan of kung fu around. Surprisingly, he is named the Dragon Warrior, despite the fact that the Furious Five have been training for the job. The title doesn't seem to thrilling, though, when he finds out that he must fight the infamous Tai Lung. Great animation and fun characters make this movie perfect for kids ages 6-8. Rated PG.

The Disney Fairies finally make their debut in Tinker Bell
, a story about Disney's precocious fairy and how she came to Pixie Hollow, located in Never Land. With gorgeous animation and fun characters, this movie is a dream come true for kids. Rated G.
