Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas - Summary
Times are hard in Frogtown Hollow this Christmas season. Most folks are struggling just to make ends meet, never mind trying to buy Christmas presents. Emmet Otter and his ma, two of the nicest folks on the river, have it extra hard since Pa passed away. But, they make do -- Ma doing laundry for a living and Emmet picking up odd jobs where he can.
When Emmet and Ma hear about a talent contest in town that will award the winner $50, both of them get all starry-eyed. Not because of what they could buy themselves with the money, but because Ma figures she could buy Emmet that guitar he's been wanting; and Emmet gets his heart set on buying Ma a new piano. Despite having to make considerable sacrifice to do so, both decide to enter the contest, hoping that a musical miracle will make this Christmas extra special.
Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas - Guide Review
Jim Henson's Muppets bring to life this heart-warming story about love and giving in a way that makes you feel like you're right there on the river bank with these down home characters. I love the country feel and the picture of a simple life that is so far from the hustle and bustle of today's world. What a stark contrast this show presents to the loud, bright and commercial holiday that we are used to seeing on TV ads and in many Christmas movies.
Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas presents a family friendly story for all ages. The only content to note involves a group of ruffians from River Bottom. These unruly animals ride motorcycles and have no regard for other people's property. The leader tells one of his band members to "shut up," and their band, The Nightmare Band, sings a song about being bad. They represent the antithesis of the good-natured and caring moral of the story.
