“eebee’s adventures” Overview

“eebee’s adventures,” created by every baby, inc. along with Sony Wonder, is a series of infant/toddler developmental DVDs designed to capture and build upon the wonder of seeing the world through a baby’s eyes. eebee, a cute baby-like puppet with colorfully funky hair, plays and interacts with mommy figure, Kristy, in play situations using every day objects. The video also portrays real babies playing with their parents.

Each “eebee’s adventures” DVD is divided into three, 10-minute segments, which focus on a learning concept modeled by eebee and other babies. The following three DVD’s are currently available:

  • All in a Day’s Play: These adventures highlight the many teachable, unplanned and unscripted learning moments that fill a baby’s day. (developed for babies aged six months and up)
  • Exploring Real Stuff: eebee and playmates explore a range of materials and everyday objects. (developed for babies aged six months and up)
  • Figuring Things Out: What happens when a child’s newfound motor skills support his/her natural curiosity and interest in making things work and achieving goals? (developed for babies aged 12 months and up)

“eebee’s adventures” are not based upon an adult agenda of memorized facts and figures, but are based upon what actually interests babies. This natural fascination allows babies to explore and learn about the world around them in an uninhibited and wonderfully scientific way. Because “eebee’s adventures” models age-appropriate play and is based on a foundation of research and proven techniques for adult-child interaction, eebee’s is also a great reference for parents.

Guide Review of "eebee's adventures"

We want children to think outside the box, yet at a young age, children are often times being boxed in by adult desires for them to learn concrete facts and figures. In “eebee’s adventures,” babies are allowed to freely explore the world in their own way, and at their own pace. In the DVD commentary, program advisors discuss this natural process, emphasizing the importance of allowing the “scientist” in every baby to experience the empowering process of discovery through pure trial-and-error, serendipitous play.

The foundation of research is evident in all “eebee’s adventures” videos, not only because of the appropriate subject matter and pace, but also because Kristy and the other parents model several strong and basic techniques for effective interaction with babies and children. Kristy continually employs such principles as positive reinforcement and attending (narrating children’s actions to help them build confidence in their own ideas and strategies) as she demonstrates patient, back and forth play with eebee.

After watching “eebee’s adventures,” I am convinced that the DVDs are even better for parents than they are for children. “eebee’s” reminds parents what it means to slow down and spend quality time with their babies. DVD special features such as the commentary and play by play narration give parents excellent insight into how babies learn, and each segment in the DVDs provides several ideas for games parents can play with their own children. Because “eebee’s adventures” emphasizes the use of everyday objects in play, the games are as inexpensive and easy to replicate as they are fun and valuable.
