2012 - New Halloween Blu-rays and DVDs for Kids

Featuring two episodes from the educational and fun PBS series for preschoolers Sid the Science Kid, Sid's Spooky Halloween is the perfect concoction of spooky, scientific and fun. Kids will learn about different animals and creatures, and as with every Sid episode, the shows on the DVD encourage kids to think, ask questions, and develop a love of learning. The episodes included on the DVD are: "Sid's Spooky Halloween" and "Healthy Day."

This Tom & Jerry Halloween-themed DVD contains 22 episodes that make for a hauntingly good time. Tom and Jerry are up to their usual tricks, but these episodes find them in spooky settings like ancient Egypt and Transylvania, where they encounter ghosts, monsters, witches and more. The DVD also contains two bonus cartoons: "Ho, Ho Horrors" and "Doggone Hill Hog."

Over the past couple of years, a few Halloween special short movies and shorts have come out featuring our favorite characters from the Shrek movies. This Blu-ray compiles them all into one place along with a couple of Halloween specials from "Monsters Vs. Aliens." Our two favorites from the Blu-ray are "Scared Shrekless," in which Shrek and the gang try to spook each other out with a scary story contest, and "Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space." The stories are full of Halloween style spookiness, but for the most part they won't be too scary for school age kids, and there is a lot of comedy as well. (NR, 102 mintues)

The ghoulish Flying Dutchman makes an appearance in many of the 7 SpongeBob episodes presented in SpongeBob SquarePants: Ghouls Fools. The double-length title episode finds SpongeBob and Patrick caught up in a feud between the Flying Dutchman and a crew of ghost pirates. Things in Bikini Bottom have never been so scary!

This compilation of favorite shows for preschoolers includes episodes from shows such as: Franklin, The Berenstain Bears, George Shrinks, Elliot Moose and Timothy Goes To School. 10 episodes in all, the DVD has a runtime of 129 minutes.

At Monster High, it's pretty much Halloween all the time, but in the title episode of this DVD, things get really scary. Conflict between the monsters and the "Normies" has made Halloween celebrations a little dicey, but this year, the Monster High gang decides to set things right.

No one does Halloween for little ones like the Berenstain Bears. Mama, Papa, Brother and Sister have had a few haunting Halloween adventures in their day, but they always get safely back to their loving family and cozy home. The Berenstain Bears' Halloween stories are a treat for young kids.

This DVD describes itself as retro, spooky fun for the entire family. The DVD is a compilation of old-school cartoons, stop-motion animations and vintage horror trailers which are set on a loop in case you just want them playing in the background during a Halloween party. Some of the classic titles included are: "Balloon Land," "Cobweb Hotel," "Wot a Night," "Magic Mummy," "Devil's Ball" and more.
