From the History's Heroes DVD line, Patrick Henry: Quest for Freedom is a 3D animated movie for kids about Patrick Henry and his contribution to the American Revolution. Boomer the Eagle takes kids all the way back to the 1775 Virginia Convention and introduces them to America's founding fathers. Patrick Henry: Quest for Freedom - Guide Review
Storytelling--that is what sets this DVD and others from the History's Heroes series apart from the rest. Kids will love Boomer the Eagle and the excited way in which he introduces them to Patrick Henry and relates the story of this great American. Whoever does the writing at American Animation Studios (and I promise I don't know them) is not only a talented storyteller, but also someone (or a group of someones) who truly relates to children.
Because the movie relates historical fact, there are some instances of peril when soldiers do not like what Patrick and others say and do. Also, one man is shown bound by shackles. The story is dramatic and at times intense, but it is told in a manner appropriate for the target audience.
Overall, the quality of animation is a little distracting at times. 3D animation is extremely difficult, and some of the characters look a little computerized, but the movie is very educational, entertaining and well worth watching.
