Paul Revere: Midnight Ride - Summary
From the History's Heroes DVD line, Paul Revere: Midnight Ride is a 3D animated movie for kids about Paul Revere and the contribution he made to the American Revolution. Ellie the Eagle and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson take a look back in time and relate the amazing story as they follow Paul on his fateful midnight ride. Kids will learn about the important signal, "one if by land, two if by sea," and the famous "shot heard 'round the world." This remarkable presentation of Paul Revere's exciting tale will have kids on the edge of their seats as they marvel that such a story really did happen.
Paul Revere: Midnight Ride - Guide Review for Parents
Hooray for history! This DVD brings the riveting story of Paul Revere to life for kids and even includes a couple of awesome original songs. What a great tool to teach kids about the people and events surrounding the American Revolution.
Because of the nature of the story, the portrayals of events include guns and other weapons. Some shots are fired, of course, and the war and casualties are discussed. The movie handles these events with care and in a manner appropriate for the target audience.
The writers took some liberties with the story including some interventions from Ellie the Eagle; however, I think it will be clear to kids that a talking eagle's actions are not historical fact. Also, the quality of the 3D animation is probably a little less than kids growing up in the age of Pixar are used to, but the great storytelling more than makes up for any lack in the visuals. I highly recommend this DVD, and I am grateful that companies like American Animation Studios are willing to create kids' media that is both fun and meaningful.
