Bottom line: JONAS is a light-hearted and musical comedy for tweens about the lives of three brothers who are pop stars. The show deals with topics related to teens -- like school, dating, and friendships -- in a clean, positive, and humorous way.

JONAS - Overview

Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas star as Kevin, Joe and Nick Lucas in the Disney Channel series JONAS. On the show, the three teenage brothers make up the band JONAS. Sound familiar? The Lucas brothers named their band after Jonas street in New Jersey, where they live in converted fire station with their mom, dad and little brother Frankie (played by the Jonas brothers' real life little brother, Frankie).

The series follows the boys as they make their best attempt to live normal lives amid adoring fans, concert tours, and everything else that comes with being the world's most popular band. Despite their successful careers and busy schedules, Nick, Joe and Kevin also attend a private school called the Horace Mantis Academy, where they hang with their long time friend Stella Malone and her best friend Macy Misa (who has proclaimed herself #1 JONAS fan). The brothers find themselves in all kinds of quirky situations as they deal with family life, school life, and pop stardom.

JONAS - Guide Review

The worst that can be said about the JONAS TV series is that it's pretty cheesy. But, what show for kids and tweens isn't? A lot of good can also be said about the show. Filled with music, comedy, and a little romance, JONAS provides fun entertainment that speaks to kids without relying on mean-spirited sarcasm or other types of enmity between characters.

The Jonas brothers, who are known off screen for being upstanding boys, carry their values over to the TV show. On the series, family comes first with the Jonas'. The boys are respectful to their parents and, even more impressive, they don't mind spending time with mom and dad and including them in their lives. Also, even though they may have occasional squabbles, the boys are best friends and treat each other as brothers should. These examples are in stark contrast to most media portrayals which cast tweens and teens as being rebellious, sarcastic, and forever at odds with their families.

JONAS - Themes and Topics

  • It is very important to the Lucas brothers' mom that, in spite of their super star status, they put family first and remain close. Focusing on family is a major theme in the JONAS series.
  • Crazed fans often cause trouble for the Lucas brothers; could this be true for the real Jonas Brothers as well? Hmmm... The show offers an opportunity to talk with kids about how famous people are still just people, and fans can sometimes get carried away.
  • Boy-girl relationships and interest in the opposite sex is a frequent topic on the show. The topic is handled lightly and appropriately for the target age group. At least one episode portrays a boy kissing a girl.

JONAS - Music

Many episodes of JONAS feature musical vignettes with songs written by the Jonas Brothers and others. The real life Jonas Brothers have recorded many singles and a few albums including: It's About Time, Jonas Brothers, and A Little Bit Longer. Some of the songs from these albums, or excerpts from the songs, are featured on the series.
