Guide Review of "We Are the Laurie Berkner Band"
Laurie Berkner strikes a chord with kids through songs that are fun and employ many different styles, rhythms, and musical techniques. I think her music also strikes a chord with parents, not only because her songs are great to listen to, but also because she provides such a strong example of real, raw musical talent that can truly inspire kids to pick up an instrument or to sing with personality.
The “We Are the Laurie Berkner Band” DVD allows kids to watch the band’s well-done and engaging videos for several popular songs. The DVD also has some great special features. In the “Moon, Moon, Moon” feature, kids can learn the choreography for the song, which is really fun.
In making a DVD, I hoped to see a little more from Laurie, like a segment where she teaches the children viewers a song or how to clap a rhythm – something that actually allows kids to interact with their favorite singer and learn directly from a positive role model. I bet kids would also love to hear from her about her love for music, how she became interested in music, or why she chose to play the guitar. The lively “We Are the Laurie Berkner Band” DVD will inspire kids to dance, sing, and hopefully find other ways to make music of their own; and I hope her future releases will give kids even more insight into the band and the magical music they make.
