The Adventures of Food Boy - Summary
Ezra (Lucas Grabeel) is a high school junior trying to make a name for himself. In an effort to enhance his resume for college, Ezra decides to run for class president. Some kids think he's crazy for going up against Garrett, a popular bully who has been the president every year, but Ezra believes he can win.
Just as the competition is getting intense, something strange begins to happen to Ezra: his hands begin to smell like food, and inevitably, whatever food his hands smell like soon comes shooting out of his hands. At first he is totally freaked out, but after his grandmother explains that he actually has a gift that has been passed down for generations, Ezra begins to use his new ability to impress his schoolmates, especially his best friend Shelby, who actually has a crush on him.
Ezra's stunts seem to be working at first, but it isn't long before his life begins to spiral out of control. Relieved, Ezra learns that he will have one chance to give up his gift forever. Will he take that chance? or will he embrace his gift and become "Food Boy."
The Adventures of Food Boy - Guide Review
The Adventures of Food Boy, as you may expect from the synopsis, is pretty far-fetched. It is hard to actually believe that Ezra is a real kid who is able to spew food out of his hands, so while the movie does have an element of charm, it doesn't really draw the audience in. The film deserves some credit for the interesting premise, though, and there are some funny scenes that will have both kids and adults laughing. In addition, the film lives up to its promise of being a fairly family friendly flick.
The film handles the core issues well, resolving the rivalry between Ezra and the school bully in an amicable way (although it does involve a large food fight, of course). Also, the relationship budding between Ezra and his friend Shelby takes on a tender note and delivers a good message about caring and consideration.
Parents should know that several scenes in the movie involve food throwing and food-related stunts that kids may be tempted to imitate. Kids at school sometimes mock and bully each other, but these scenes are pretty mild. Also, Ezra is disrespectful to his grandmother in a few instances, however he does seem to be kinder to her as the movie progresses and he grows closer to her.
