Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt - Overview

Most DVDs based on preschooler's shows are a collection of regular show episodes. Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt, however, includes a double-length springtime special of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse along with the episode "Donald's Hiccups" (never-before-seen at the time of the DVD release).

In Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt, Mickey and his friends are planning a springtime party, but before the fun can begin, the clubhouse mysteriously breaks into pieces and disappears with Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Daisy inside. Mickey enlists the help of viewing children as he tries to solve the mystery of the disappearing clubhouse and find his friends.

Like other Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episodes, the springtime special entertains kids while focusing on a curriculum of problem solving and mathematical skills. In Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt, Mickey encourages children to help him piece together a puzzle, pick out a correct pathway, and repeat a pattern.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt - Guide Review

Holiday episodes of kids' favorite shows are always fun. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, although a relatively new show, has done several holiday episodes. The springtime episode is the first double-length special. The problem is, it seems like they took a storyline developed for a 25 minute episode and stretched it out to 45 minutes.

While the plot does revolve around a spring party, most of the time is filled with Mickey trying to put the clubhouse - which had been scattered to unknown destinations due to Pete saying the wrong magic words - back together. The plot is strained, the songs are not that great, and the springtime story lacks springtime fun.

Nevertheless, my kids loved the show and wanted to watch it again. Mickey and the gang still have their charm, even if the story is not that fun for adults who are watching the DVD with their kids.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt - Expand Upon the Curriculum

  • During the show, kids are shown a picture of the clubhouse, which they must help Mickey fit back together like a puzzle. Kids might also have a lot of fun putting together a puzzle of their own house. The puzzle could be made by cutting an actual picture of the house or from a drawing.
  • While Mickey travels through space, he shows kids a pattern made with stars. Draw out the pattern (one big star followed by two little stars - repeated) and let kids color it. Or, for older preschoolers, help them create a star pattern of their own.
