Mr. Bean's Holiday - Plot Summary

It' a church raffle, and who should be the lucky winner of a dream vacation to the French Riviera but the bumbling Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson)? So, with a few belongings and his prized new camcorder in tow, Mr. Bean sets off for a fabulous French adventure. As is the case with Bean, though, it is not long before he inadvertently finds trouble.

While boarding a train on his way to Cannes, Bean causes another passenger to miss the train - a man whose son was already aboard. Feeling bad about the terrible situation, Bean makes an awkward attempt to look out for the boy, Stepan (Max Baldry), and manages to pull the boy into all sorts of silly situations.

Thankfully, Bean meets an actress named Sabine (Emma de Caunes) who befriends him and and the boy, and the three travel together to Cannes. With two new friends and his tried and true dumb luck, Mr. Bean may just stumble out of trouble once again, unless he gets arrested or something first.

Mr. Bean's Holiday - Guide Review for Parents

As the last movie came out 10 years ago, most kids will probably not be begging to see this film. Parents who are Bean fans, however, may want to share the Bean experience with the whole family. Rated G, Mr. Bean's Holiday is definitely aimed at families. The film is good for a few laughs, but the slow-paced comedy may become a little tedious, especially for young kids, and the film does contain some examples of less than stellar behavior from our friend Mr. Bean.

Those who are familiar with Mr. Bean know that he has a habit of getting into troublesome fixes. Sometimes, he uses less than desirable means of getting out of trouble, and he often doesn't consider the way his actions will affect someone else. In Mr. Bean's Holiday, Mr. Bean's careless attempts at saving himself from trouble result in less than happy outcomes for a few other people in the film.

Although most of his mischief is unintentional and all is light-heartedly played for laughs, he does set a bad example at times. In this movie he purposely ruins woman's purse, steals a bike, and attempts to steal a motor bike. Mr. Bean's Holiday - Content Overview

The following lists two or three of the most prominent examples of possibly offensive content in the movie for each category (may contain spoilers):

Violence (Mild)
- A boy slaps Mr. Bean across the face.
- Bean happens upon a set where a commercial is being filmed and we see tanks, soldiers and guns. There are several explosions, and one man is later shown to have been accidentally hurt (but not seriously).
- Bean accidentally calls the wrong number and hangs up. The man he called is disappointed that it was not his love and he is shown jumping off a bridge and landing in the water, presumably trying to commit suicide. The film never shows him surface.

Sex/Nudity (Mild)
- Some people in swimsuits are shown, and a few women wear outfits that show some cleavage.

Profanity (None)
- No profanity is used, but Mr. Bean sometimes jumps and stomps while uttering unintelligible sounds when he is angry.

Alcohol/Drugs (Mild)
- A man who appears to be a drunk approaches Stepan, and Mr. Bean runs him off.

Bad/Disrespectful Behavior (Moderate)
- Mr. Bean spills coffee on a man's laptop. The laptop is ruined, but Mr. Bean just scoops off as much coffee as he can and walks away.
- Mr. Bean pours seafood into a woman's purse and leaves when he thinks she might discover it.
- Mr. Bean steals a bike and attempts to steal a motor bike.
- Mr. Bean burns his own finger with a cigarette lighter in order to stay awake while driving. He also props his eyelids open with wooden picks.

Scary Scenes (Mild)
- A dog jumps up and barks in one scene which may startle some viewers.

Sad/Distressing Scenes (Mild)
- A boy on a train yells for his father, and watches as his father gets left behind.
- A man and his wife are distressed that their son is missing.
