I can remember Scholastic books from when I was in elementary school. I loved to get the Scholastic Book Club catalogues and pick from all the great titles. What I didnt know then, was that most of the books in the catalogue were renowned in the world of childrens literature, and even today children are still reading those same classic stories. Also available to kids today are Scholastic DVDs, which are animated adaptations of many of the most beloved stories.
The Benefits of Scholastic DVDs
Scholastic DVDs are narrated using the exact words from the stories themselves. Even the animation in the DVDs matches that of the books. Why, though, would we encourage children to watch a DVD over reading a book? Well, we wouldnt do that! But the Scholastic DVD series offers several benefits to parents and kids:
- When kids do want to watch a DVD, Scholastic DVDs are a great option, because they are adaptations of high quality childrens literature, and the content is completely kid appropriate.
- Parents and teachers can use the DVDs as an incentive and a way to make reading even more exciting. Children can read the book and then watch the DVD, which brings the story they just heard, or learned to read, to life.
- The narrators of the DVDs provide a great example of reading with expression. Especially if a child is learning to read that particular book, watching the DVD can improve the way the child reads by allowing them to hear the book read as an animated story.
