Abby meets many strange characters -- the Counterpillar, Cheshire Cookie Cat, and the Mad Hatter (Grover) to name a few -- while trying to find the Red Rabbit and get her wand back, and she must overcome a few obstacles as well. Her rhyming skills come in handy, and she soon masters the art of becoming big or small as the situation requires. Viewing children will enjoy an adventure in learning as they visit Wonderland reinvented Sesame-style.
Sesame Street: Abby in Wonderland - Guide Review
Abby Cadabby came to Sesame Street only two years ago, and she has already become one of the most beloved characters. This colorful and musical DVD features Abby, the innocent and sweet little fairy-in-training, in a movie all her own. She has the personality to keep kids' attention, and the story is actually not a bad little rendition of Alice in Wonderland. Kids will adore seeing their favorite Sesame Street pals act out the familiar tale.
Educational content in the movie focuses mainly on rhyming and differentiating size, but there is also some counting and Spanish from the Counterpillar and Rose-ita. The core concepts are clear and woven well into the storyline, so kids will not even realize that they are learning as they watch Abby find her way through this exciting adventure.
Sesame Street: Abby in Wonderland - Expand Upon the Curriculum
- The DVD box suggests that parents can help their children create their own fairy tale. Have your child pretend to fall asleep and wake up in a fairy tale land. They can describe the land, make up a story, and draw a picture of what the land would look like.
- In the story, Abby has to rhyme in order for the magic cookie and drink to work. Incorporate rhyming into kids' daily activities by asking them to rhyme when they want something, or make up rhymes with them as you pick up the house or go on a walk.
- Read a story with your child, and have family members act out the story by playing different parts. Ask your child how he or she thinks the character feels during different situations from the story.
