Sleeping Beauty: 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition presents the animated classic digitally restored with enhanced picture and sound. In addition, the film is expanded so that the picture shows details that were not visible in previous versions. The extensive bonus features on this two-disc edition provide further insight into the original film, including the alternate opening and information about the music and the animation. The Sleeping Beauty: 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition breathes new life into the unique and beautiful film that was the final fairy tale produced by Walt Disney himself.
Sleeping Beauty: 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition - Guide Review
Maybe it is just that the original animation was so striking, but it seems to me that Sleeping Beauty: 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition is the most beautifully restored of all the platinum edition classics. In some ways, when past classics such as Peter Pan were digitally restored, I almost missed the old-style charm of the original movie; however, this is not the case with Sleeping Beauty. The restored version just looks so good, and the unique style of colors and lines in the animation stands out even more than it did before.
The bonus features on the DVD are about what we have seen on past platinum edition DVDs, and while I am usually not so impressed by the games and activities, I adore the educational Backstage Disney features that give kids a glimpse into the making of these films and illuminate the animation process. Sleeping Beauty contains some fantastic features about the music, animation, and artists behind the movie. Story boards, art galleries, deleted songs, and more provide fascinating entertainment for the family, and the DVD even contains a feature on Peter Tchaikovsky. The original movie in itself is enough to warrant owning a copy, especially if you have a little princess of your own who would love the film, but the new look and the wealth of features make Sleeping Beauty: 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition exceptional --well worth the investment.
