Cody Maverick: (Voiced by Shia LeBeouf) A teenaged up-and-coming surfer penguin, Cody has been chasing the dream of being a surfing star ever since he met surfing legend Big Z. Now that he's finally ready to enter a pro competition, Cody wants to document every step of the journey that he believes will bring him fame, admiration, and fortune.

Along the way, Cody discovers that Big Z is still around. Having lost his own father, Cody looks to Big Z as a mentor and father figure. As he, Big Z and other friends meet new challenges along the way, Cody discovers what it means to be a true winner.

Reggie Belafonte: (voiced by James Woods, left) He used to be manager of the "late" Big Z, but now he makes more money off Big Z's legend. Since Big Z left, Reggie has also been rakin' in the money as Tank's manager, and he's got his eye on young Cody Maverick as well. The greedy little otter will do anything to get ahead.

Mikey Abromowitz: (voiced by Mario Cantone) With Reggie as a boss, anyone would be stressed out, and this little shorebird is about to blow a gasket. Mikey used to be a talent scout in the musical theater business, but now he's out to find the next big thing in the world of surfing.

Tank "The Shredder" Evans: (voiced by Diedrich Bader) Tank is the winner of the previous nine Big Z Memorial Surf Offs, and he is not modest about it, A huge emperor penguin, Tank is a bully and likes to flaunt his physique and his trophies.
