Cody Maverick: (Voiced by Shia LeBeouf) A teenaged up-and-coming surfer penguin, Cody has been chasing the dream of being a surfing star ever since he met surfing legend Big Z. Now that he's finally ready to enter a pro competition, Cody wants to document every step of the journey that he believes will bring him fame, admiration, and fortune.
Along the way, Cody discovers that Big Z is still around. Having lost his own father, Cody looks to Big Z as a mentor and father figure. As he, Big Z and other friends meet new challenges along the way, Cody discovers what it means to be a true winner.
Big Z: A legendary surfer penguin who everyone thinks has passed away, Big Z has actually been living as a hermit for the past decade. When his biggest fan, Cody Maverick, finds out that Big Z is still alive, he looks to Big Z as a father figure. In developing new relationships, though, Big Z must come to terms with his past and figure out who he is now.
