The Jungle Book 2 - Summary
The Jungle Book 2 finds Mowgli safe and sound in the man-village where we last left him. Mowgli has found a family and is still smitten by Shanti, the girl who lured him into the village in the first place. Mowgli is happy in his new home, but his heart still beats to the jungle rhythm, so he is ecstatic when Baloo sneaks into the village to see him. A wild animal in the village causes quite a stir, though, and Mowgli finds himself right back where he started - hangin' with Baloo and trying not to get caught by the sinister tiger Shere Khan.
What Mowgli doesn't know, is that Shanti and Mowgli's little stepbrother Ranjan have wandered into the jungle after him. Mowgli may be wise to the dangers of the jungle, but his friends are not, and now Shere Khan has two more man cubs to go after. Shere Khan is more determined than ever to save face and eat a man cub for dinner. Even if they can elude the dangerous jungle animals, will the villagers ever forgive Mowgli for endangering their children?
The Jungle Book 2 - Guide Review for Parents
Parents and older kids who are familiar with the original movie may feel like they are experiencing deja vou with The Jungle Book 2. The story, most of the characters, and the bad guy tiger are all essentially the same. It's like watching the original movie with a few new songs and a couple of new characters. Still, the movie does have fun music and animation that will keep kids' toes tappin'.
The movie is rated G and is tailored toward kids of all ages. Very young children may be frightened by Shere Khan and Kaa (the crazy-eyed serpent). As usual, though, those two get their comeuppance in the end. At one point, the movie leaves the viewer wondering if Shere Khan killed one of the mouthy vultures, but he ends up reappearing later in the story.
In one scene, Mowgli disobeys the man who has become a father to him and begins to lead the village kids into the jungle. The story highlights the conflict between Mowgli's desire to go back to the jungle and the village leaders' desire to keep everyone safe, so sometimes the kids disobey the rules, but in the end, everyone comes to an understanding.
