Jacks Big Music Show Overview
Jacks Big Music Show is produced by Spiffy Pictures and airs every day on NOGGIN. Jack, a fun-loving preschooler puppet, escapes each day to his backyard clubhouse, where he and his friends hang out doing what they love best - making music. The show also features guest appearances and music videos by popular childrens musicians.
According to Viacom, owner of the NOGGIN network:
The mission of Jacks Big Music Show is to expose and foster an appreciation of music in young children. Music, and musical instruments, help children expand their universe and develop memory, language, literacy and reasoning skills as well as the cognitive, social and motor skills that are needed to excel in school. In Jacks clubhouse, music is pure joy -- no expectations and no right or wrong way.
Jacks Big Music Show Episode Outline
Each episode takes place in Jacks clubhouse where Jack, his best friend Mary, and his drum-playing dog Mel meet to play music, sing, dance, and have fun. Jack and his friends, along with varied puppet and human guests who visit his backyard clubhouse, explore music in fun and goofy ways using a variety of instruments and styles of music throughout each storyline. Each episode also features a music video by acclaimed childrens vocal artist Laurie Berkner, and one other video by varied childrens musicians.
Jacks Big Music Show Educational Value
Music is the word of the day on Jacks Big Music Show. The strong emphasis on everything musical gives preschoolers a strong sense of what music is and an introduction to different components that can be involved in making music, such as song, instruments, rhythm, and so on. The characters impart their love for music to the audience in silly and endearing ways.
The music videos provide a fun break from the clubhouse scene, but because every show takes place in the seemingly tiny clubhouse, the episodes all look and feel the same. Although the storylines and guests in each episode are different, kids might get bored of seeing the same, limited surroundings of the clubhouse all the time.
Overall, though, Jacks Big Music Show is sweet and funny, and the show does a good job of fostering an appreciation of music in young children.
