VeggieTales: Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella - Overview

Minnesota Cuke -- children's museum curator and part-time detective - is back in a second adventure with VeggieTales: Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella. In the movie, Tom and Larry illustrate the importance of being confident and not worrying about what other people will think with a story about Minnesota on a brand new quest.

When Minnesota finds out that Professor Rattan has gone missing, he sets out to find his friend. Rattan was on a mission to find Noah's Ark, but Minnesota learns about something even more powerful that is at stake -- Noah's umbrella. In order to save Rattan and keep the umbrella out of the wrong hands, Minnesota must carefully follow some specific instructions along his journey.

The problem is, he is afraid that people will laugh at him, and he fails to carry out some of the steps. Thankfully, Minnesota has the help of a few very good friends, but he will need to overcome his fear of what others think if he is going to unlock the mystery of the umbrella and save the day.

VeggieTales: Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella - Guide Review

A fun little spoof on the Indiana Jones movies, VeggieTales: Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella will delight children with colorful characters, silly songs, and a mysterious storyline surrounding Noah's intriguing umbrella. What, you don't remember about that part of the story from the bible? Maybe it's covered in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Anyway, the movie is full of clever jokes and fun plot details based on the Indiana Jones movies that make Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella fun for viewers of all ages.

Through the tale of Minnesota Cuke and his fear that he will be laughed at, the movie conveys the moral that it is important to do the right thing no matter what other people say or do. In fact, Minnesota has to deal with some of the consequences when he lets fear of being mocked deter him from completing an important task. As with all VeggieTale movies, Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella brings about the story with almost no real violence and no offensive language or other content. The moral of the story is also tied in to a verse from the bible, so for those who read and study the bible as a family, the show offers a simple and understandable application of scripture.

VeggieTales: Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella - Expand Upon the Curriculum

  • As is always the case, the moral of this story will sink more deeply into the minds and hearts of kids if you discuss the story and the moral as a family. Kids generally understand the underlying message within the context of a movie, but they sometimes have trouble applying the principle in their own lives. Think of situations that might arise in your kids' lives and role play how they could show confidence and overcome the fear of man.
  • Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella is a re-imagining of the Indiana Jones movies. Help your kids get creative and re-imagine a story in their own way or write a new story that teaches a moral or lesson.
  • The VeggieTales characters are anthropomorphized vegetables. Encourage your child to write and illustrate a story using inanimate objects brought to life like the veggies. What do the objects stand for? Maybe pen, pencil, ruler and protractor come to life and have adventures that teach kids about learning, or the rocks in the garden have personalities and must mediate arguments between the bunny rabbits and the earth worms. Bringing inanimate objects to life is a creative leap for small children in some ways, so writing such a story may be a joint effort, but they are naturals at imagination and they will love spending creative time with you.
