WALL-E - DVD and Blu-ray Features

The WALL-E 3-disc Special Edition offers a wealth of bonus features on both the DVD and Blu-ray discs. Families will enjoy learning about the animated movie-making process with tons of behind-the-scenes and making-of featurettes. Not only can kids learn from these segments, but younger kids can also begin to better understand the difference between what they see on a movie and reality. They are able to see first hand how the characters came to life and were created by people using their incredible imaginations.

All versions of DVD and Blu-ray include an all-new animated short "BURN-E." A determined repair robot, BURN-E makes every attempt to perform his duties (we see him briefly in WALL-E trying to fix something on the outside of the ship), but that blasted WALL-E just keep getting in the way. The short is hilarious and it's fun to see new content like this when you shell out the money for a DVD of a movie you may have already seen.

The Blu-ray disc (Compare Prices) does offer several exclusive bonus features. Here are a couple of highlights from the Blu-ray disc:

  • The Axiom Arcade: Includes several arcade games that will remind you of those fun old-school arcades we used to go to as kids. The games are well done and would be especially fun for kids ages 6-12. Just don't wear out your remote control!
  • 3D Set Fly-Throughs: Explore the Axiom ship including economy, coach and first class sections. The virtual tour is not interactive, except that you can chose which area of the ship to explore.
  • BD-Live Network: Disney’s BD-Live Network offers Movie Chat, Movie Mail, and Movie Challenge (test your skills against online players in a synchronized, real-time, online trivia game while watching WALL-E).
  • One thing that impressed me about the WALL-E DVD and Blu-ray is that it contains bonus features that are fun for all ages. The "Lots of Bots" Story book is really cute and perfect for preschoolers, while the arcade games suit older kids. Of course, adults can also find entertainment in the commentaries and behind-the-scenes featurettes.
